1. Your resume is a marketing document, not a legal one

Stop listing every job you had since 2011. Cut ruthlessly. Anything older than 10 years should be 1-2 lines unless it's genuinely relevant.

2. Referrals still beat portals — 4x

Applying cold on LinkedIn has a ~2% response rate. Referred candidates convert 6-8x higher. Spend 30% of job-search time on relationships, not applications.

3. Negotiation is expected, not offensive

The company already has a budget range. Ask. The worst answer is "no, this is our best offer" — and you're right back where you started.

4. Remote is table stakes, hybrid is normal

Fully-remote listings have dropped ~30% since 2022 peak. Optimize for the setup you want; don't chase remote-only if 3-day hybrid is your dream.

5. LinkedIn is a search engine, not a diary

Your headline & about section are indexed. Load them with the exact keywords recruiters search for. "Aspiring engineer" ≠ "Backend Engineer · Node.js · AWS".

6. Layoffs are a feature, not a bug

They will happen to you at some point. Keep 6 months of runway. Keep a live document of your wins. Keep talking to recruiters even when you're happy.

7. Skills > titles

Junior at a great company beats senior at a nowhere company. Optimize for what you'll learn in the next 2 years.
